Dear Friend,

WELCOME TO LOTSA COMMUNITY WORKS

Featured this month:

September always seems like the best time to get organized as summer winds down; to clean out closets, schedule appointments, and prepare the kids for school and extracurricular activities. To many, this time of year feels like a new beginning. But for countless caregivers, both new and “experienced,” every day can feel like an entirely new challenge, with a new set of complex variables to juggle. Effectively managing these caregiving responsibilities requires getting and staying organized. It was this goal of getting organized that reminded me of a story we heard recently from a Lotsa Community member, Stacey.

A few months back Stacey wrote to share her story. When her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, she wasn’t sure where to start. A friend offered to create a Lotsa community to help Stacey and her mother. Though it was nearly a year later until Stacey needed to use the community, she said she was so grateful to have such a wonderful support system already organized and in place for when she needed it most. Despite their sometimes desperate need for help, caregivers already overwhelmed by the many tasks they face simply cannot take on the additional task of organizing offers of help. Stacey wrote that not only did her Lotsa community help ease her physical burden, but she felt stronger from the emotional support her friends and family provided. Many of us know someone who is caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s or MS, where the needs of the family may not be immediate. But as Stacey shared with us — having a community in place can be truly helpful when the need arises.

This September, if you know someone who is caring for a loved one, consider creating a community to help. It only takes a minute, and it’s one of the easiest ways to offer your help and support during a tough time.

     From our Community to yours,

          Hal Chapel, Co-Founder & CEO

Lotsa Tips — Get the Most out of your Community

Read our tips below to learn how you can get the most out of Lotsa Helping Hands. And if you’re looking for more ideas for your Lotsa Community, head over to our How it Works Page, or contact our Member Support Center to get your questions answered!

1. Use One Email to Switch Between Communities — Many Lotsa members help and volunteer in multiple communities. When you’re ready to create or join a second or third community for another friend or family in need, use the same email address and password. When you use the same email address and password, you can easily toggle between all of your communities without having to sign in and out each time.

2. Easily Add Many Members to your Community — To add a large number of people to your community, we suggest inviting them to join your community via email. You can do this by writing an email in your own email system, in which you can explain what the community is all about, and then cut and paste your community homepage address (www.lotsahelpinghands.com/c/xxxxxx/ which will include your community ID number) into the body of the email. Your friends will click on the link and should request to join via the “Join this Community” link. Those who request membership will receive emails letting them know that their membership is pending. You can then approve those members through the ‘Administration’ tab in your community. Once members are approved, they can begin helping in your community.
